Visitor restrictions to Machu Picchu temporarily lifted

[Originally published August 11, 2011] Peru’s Ministry of Culture and tourism sector hammered out an agreement this week to lift restrictions on the number of visitors to Machu Picchu following fallout from last month when hundreds of tourists were turned away because the famed Inca ruins had reached it’s official 2,500-person-per-day capacity.

RPP: Change of plans for Machu Picchu 100th Anniversary Celebration

[Originally published June 23, 2011] Radioprogramas del Peru has reported that UNESCO has weighed in on the celebration plans and as a result, Peru’s government will be restricting access of journalists and the planned fireworks display at the ruins is being canceled. Most importantly the concert will not be held in the Citadel. Still no official word on where it will be relocated to.
